Have Your Say On Plans For The Active Todmorden Project

Update from Todmorden Town Deal Board

Todmorden Town Deal Board would like to confirm that the latest plans for the Active Todmorden project includes two options for residents, communities and businesses to comment on and share feedback:

1. On-Road Cycling Option

The original on-road cycling proposal which introduces a two-way cycle lane from the Town Centre along Burnley Road, past Patmos, and to the entrance of Centre Vale Park.

This option will mean the removal of car parking outside Patmos businesses.

2. Walking Option

An alternative option that focuses on improving the walking route from the Town Centre along Burnley Road, past Patmos, and to the entrance of Centre Vale Park.

This option means the car parking outside Patmos businesses remains and that there is no two-way cycling route in this location.

The alternative Walking Option is being proposed at the request of the Board, in response to local feedback and safety concerns raised with the original plan.

The majority of members of Todmorden Town Deal Board is clear in their support of Option 2 as its preferred option to improve accessible walking routes and focus on off-road cycling opportunities, including in Centre Vale Park and at the Riverside Centre all-abilities track that will be developed as part of another Town Deal project.

The key purpose of the engagement events on Todmorden Market last week was to share the new alternative Walking Option with members of the public to gather views and feedback, alongside the original proposal.

Unfortunately, due to the disruption of a small minority of people on Thursday’s event, it was difficult for many people to talk to project staff, view the plans and share their feedback. Consequently, the Saturday event was cancelled and alternative arrangements made to get feedback that allowed all voices to be heard.

As a Board, we would now urge those who wish to view and share their preferences on the two Active Todmorden plans to do so. Residents, communities and business owners can do this by:

The deadline for you to do this is 10th November 2024.
